Concrete Flowers

Excerpt: “They buried us deep and forgot we were seeds. They didn’t know that darkness was exactly what we needed to bloom.”
Look at the pavement. Look at the gray, hard, unforgiving concrete that covers the city. It is designed to suppress. It is designed to be impenetrable.
And yet, look closer.
There, in the smallest hairline crack, is a dandelion. It is vibrant yellow. It is standing tall.
No one watered it. No one planted it. No one gave it permission to grow. In fact, the whole world was built to stop it from growing. But it grew anyway.
You are feeling buried right now. You feel like the weight of the world is sitting on your chest, heavy as stone. You feel like you are in the dark.
But they buried us deep and forgot we were seeds. They didn’t know that darkness was exactly what we needed to bloom.
Do not ask for permission to shine. Do not wait for the conditions to be perfect. Be the concrete flower. Break through the things that try to hold you down, and turn your face toward the sun.
